Update Spring, 2008

South Central Unit Twenty massage therapists attended the spring South-central PA
AMTA meeting Saturday, April 19th, 2008 at the PA Myotherapy Institute,
New Oxford, PA.

Questions and ideas for PA state licensure formed most of the
group discussion. Kelly Givens, Central PA Representative reported updated
information from the state meetings. Snacks, fruit and tea were served.

After the meeting, Camille Baughman, past PA AMTA board member, local
massage teacher and massage therapist, presented an experiential
workshop: Words that Serve: Living a Life you can live with--Communication
that makes a difference. Without using words, the class organized themselves
according to their birthdate. This led to a discussion about communication
styles, needs and personal insights gained through the exercise. Camille
also presented a communication model using the Chinese 5 elements as a tool
for self-observation, daily practices for change and a new way to be present
for self and clients. The four-hour class ended with a drum circle to facilitate and
support communication and listening skills.

The fall meeting for the southcentral PA unit will be Sat., Sept. 27th,
2008 at the PA Myotherapy Institute. Stephen Markman will be presenting
Jin Shin Do acupressure. This class will be available for 6 CEU’s and NCBMTB
credits. Jin Shin Do is body-mind acupressure combining meditative
breathing methods, Japanese finger pressure, Chinese 5-element theory
and modern insights of emotional and attitudinal states with body “armoring”
or tension.

Postcards and e-mails will be sent out around Aug. 1st for the southcentral
PA AMTA fall meeting. When pre-registering for this class, expect
a reply to the phone call or e-mail to confirm registration, this ensures that
we have your registration.
